Cylindrical Grinding
|
|
| Also called center-type grinding and is used in the removing of material from the cylindrical surfaces and shoulders of the workpiece. The workpiece is mounted between conical centers and rotated by a workpiece holder also known as a Work Head or Drive Head. The Cutting tool is an abrasive wheel that rotates at different rates. It is mounted to and controlled by the Wheel Head. The grinding wheel can be dressed (cut or shaped) straight to produce simple cylindrical shapes, tapered or straight. The grinding wheel can also be dressed in a shape to produce a contour on the workpiece. This type of machining process is used to produce highly accurate sizing and fine surfaces finishes. |
